This is the log of SimplyHelp projects and activities that occurred during January through early September of 2010.


September Activities

September 1, 2010
SimplyHelp hosted a workshop at 63rd annual NGO DPI United Nations conference, titled ‘Improving Global Health through Education of Mothers and Grandmothers ’.
The conference took place in Melbourne and focused on advancing Global Health. 5 youth ambassadors had been carefully selected by SimplyHelp and joined us at the conference.

August Activities

August 2010
Nicargua SimplyHelp visited Nicaragua to assess and evaluate the vocational training schools it has supported in the past. The schools were reported as doing very well.
August 30, 2010
SimplyHelp attended the 63rd annual NGO DPI United Nations conference. This year it was in Melbourne and the conference focused on advancing Global Health. On Septmeber 1 SimplyHelp hosted its own workshop at this conference, titled ‘Improving Global Health through Education of Mothers and Grandmothers’.

SimplyHelp meets with the First Lady of Honduras and is now in the process of exploring ways to work together on establishing a new vocational training school.

July Activities

July 15, 2010
The SimplyHelp Foundation selected 5 SimplyHelp Ambassadors to the United Nations. These Ambassadors, students ages 23-32, will travel to Melbourne, Australia, with SimplyHelp, to attend the 63rd Annual Department of Public Information, Non-Governmental Organizations Conference, from Aug. 30th till Sept. 1st.
The topic of this conference is ‘Advance Global Health – Achieve the Millennium Development Goals’. The SimplyHelp Foundation will host a workshop at this conference focusing on ‘Advance Global Health through Education of Mothers and Grandmothers’.
El Salvador: July 2010
SimplyHelp provided emergency disaster relief to families in El Salvador following devastating Hurricane Agatha in July, 2010. The Mayor and community members selected 150 affected families in 5 different villages to receive bags of donations filled with clothes, shoes, toys, and medicine.

The SimplyHelp Foundation facilitates a donation distribution and visits its vocational training schools in El Salvador to evaluate the progress.

The SimplyHelp Foundation hosted its first Volunteer Retreat.
June 13, 2010
The SimplyHelp Foundation shipped a container to Nicaragua. The donations are for the SimplyHelp vocational training schools, as well as for the survivors of storm Agatha.
June 6, 2010
The SimplyHelp Foundations shipped its 3rd container for Honduras this year.
These donations were for the survivors of tropical storm Agatha.
June 2010
In June of 2010, SimplyHelp helped to bring joy and much needed aid to 1800 people living at or below the poverty line in Honduras’ capital city of Tegucigalpa. Food, clothes, shoes and toys were distributed in Colonia Suyapa and Colonia San Michael.

May 3, 2010
SimplyHelp hosted a workshop on May 3rd at the 18th meeting of the Commission on Sustainable Development at the United Nations.
The topic of the workshop was ‘Beyond the Rainforest: ‘A New Model for Vocational Training’.
SimplyHelp Youth Ambassador Andy Chen opened the workshop with a beautiful music performance on his viola.

April Activities

In honor of Mothers Day 2010, SimplyHelp visited four Convalescent Homes in Los Angeles County. On Friday, April 30, 2010 SimplyHelp staff and volunteers delivered cookies and cake, and spent time dancing and conversing with residents who responded with smiling faces and grateful gestures…

SimplyHelp was promoted at exclusive red carpet movie premiere ‘The Road to Freedom’ in the Egyptian Theather in Hollywood. The movie tells the story of Cambodia’s civil war.

SimplyHelp hosted a workshop at the 54th session of the Commission on the Status of Women at the United Nations.
The title of the workshop was ‘Best Practices on Women’s Empowerment’ and was a great success. Two SimplyHelp Youth Ambassadors opened and closed the workshop with an art performance inspired by women empowerment. There was a large audience and a lively discussion after the presentations. .

With your help, and after some serious phone calling, a shipping container full of relief supplies was sent to assist the relief effort in Haiti. On Tuesday January 12, 2010, Haiti experienced a catastrophic magnitude 7.0 earthquake that resulted in devastating, unimaginable destruction and loss of life. February 7, 2010
SimplyHelp participated in a second fundraiser for the victims of the devestating Haiti earthquake organized by the The Joint Chinese University Alumni Association of Southern California (JCUAA). In total, $18,000 was raised to support the ongoing relief effort in Haiti.

January Activities

January 31, 2010
SimplyHelp participated in a fundraiser to help the victims of the Haiti earthquake disaster hosted by the Culture Center of Taipei Economic & Cultural Office (El Monte, CA). The fundraiser was a success with $3500 raised for those suffering in devestated Haiti.

January 17, 2010
SimplyHelp sent a container with donations (mainly computers) to Honduras last Sunday, to help set up a computer school for street kids.
