Relief Work

Poverty Relief
SimplyHelp distributes donations several times a year to thousands of people living in poverty in California and New York. SimplyHelp donates clothing, shoes, food, toys, medicine and other useful supplies collected by SimplyHelp volunteers.

The United States is one of the wealthiest nations in the world, so it comes as no surprise that many Americans think of hunger and poverty as occurring only in developing countries. Well, newsflash: hunger and poverty do in fact occur here. While most Americans have encountered someone suffering from hunger and poverty in the United States, few have a full grasp of the extent of the problem. The image of hunger and poverty can be more subtle in the United States than it is in developing nations. It can be a child who is malnourished because her parents do not earn enough to buy healthy food, and who sometimes has to skip meals. It can be a single parent who works full time but still can’t afford to pay for food, rent, child care, medical bills, or the costs of a car to travel to work. These are also the faces of poverty and require not only our awareness, but our help.

Disaster Relief
In 2005, SimplyHelp provided disaster relief to students in New Orleans who lost everything during Hurricane Katrina. We provided students with housing and food for three months so they could continue their studies while seeking alternative housing.
