The SimplyHelp Foundation obtained Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in 2006. This means that the UN ECOSOC opened its door for consultation with the SimplyHelp Foundation.

Representatives of the SimplyHelp Foundations attend UN conferences in New York bi-annually.

ECOSOC was established under the United Nations Charter as the principal organ to coordinate economic, social, and related work of the 14 UN specialized agencies, functional commissions and five regional commissions. The Council also receives reports from 11 UN funds and programs. The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) serves as the central forum for discussing international economic and social issues, and for formulating policy recommendations addressed to Member States and the United Nations system.

In carrying out its mandate, ECOSOC consults with academics, business sector representatives and more than 2,100 registered non-governmental organizations. (http://www.un.org/ecosoc/about/)


United Nations Millenium Development Goals
SimplyHelp’s Activities in line with the Millennium Development Goals
The SimplyHelp Foundation contributed to the Millenium Development Goals in the following four geographical regions:

Central America, Asia, Africa, and North America.

Major actions undertaken were the following:

Millennium Goal 1 - Target 2: Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
ACTIONS:

Nujmber of Cambodian students that received computer training and an official certificate between 2002-2008 = 2198

90% of the computer class graduates found a job.

Number of Cambodian students that received tailoring training in rural areas since 2002 = 1686.

95 % of the tailoring class found a job with local manufacturers.

5% started their own business.

Number of El Salvadoran students that received computer literacy classes since 2006 = 1000.

Number of El Salvadoran students that received cosmetology training since 2006 = 1440.

Number of El Salvadoran homeless seniors that have been placed in SimplyHelp Senior Centers, providing elderly with a room, 3 nutritious meals/day and healthcare = 36.

Number of Panamanian homeless seniors in SimplyHelp Senior Centers, provided with shelter, nutritious food and healthcare = 20.

Number of 40ft containers with aid supplies like blankets, clothes, toys, medicine, school supplies among others shipped to people living in poverty in around the world since 2005 = 45.

Number of donation distributions in the USA to families living below the poverty line and homeless individuals = 16. Total # of people served = ~ 3500.

Number of houses built in 2007 for earthquake victims in Peru = 10.

 

Millennium Goal 2 - Target 1: Achieve universal primary education
ACTIONS:

Number of elementary schools built in rural China (Jiangxi, Huizhou, Sichuan provinces) since 2003 = 10

Number of Chinese students receiving primary education every year through SimplyHelp = 1050+

Computers delivered to 4 schools in Nicaragua = 100

Sewing machines delivered to 4 schools in Nicaragua = 100

 

Millennium Goal 3. Promote gender equality and empower women.
ACTIONS:

The Tailoring School in rural Cambodia has empowered women, raised their social status, and developed a thriving economy in the rural areas they are located in. 5% of the graduates set up their own business and are attracting suppliers and distributers from all over Cambodia. 95% of the graduates have been able to find jobs with local manufacturers.

Number of new Computers donated to women center in Panama: 25

Number of new Sewing Machines donated to women center in Panama: 25

SimplyHelp will open a Vocational Training Center for women in La Libertad, El Salvador on April 15th 2009. Classes offered:

Cosmetology, Gastronomy, Maid services, Bar tending, Bakery, Tailoring.


Students will be able to start working immediately upon graduation in this city’s booming tourist industry.
