Poverty is largely a rural problem in Nicaragua. Nearly half (43%) of the people in Nicaragua live in rural areas. Two-thirds (68%) of Nicaraguans struggle to survive on little more than$1 per day. Natural disasters and the distortion of commodity prices on the international market have led to an increase in poverty in many regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img
